GROZNY. May 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal troops have eliminated a large rebel base in southern Chechnya, Chechen administration head Akhmad Kadyrov told journalists on Wednesday.
Numerous rebels, including foreign mercenaries, were killed in the clash, Kadyrov noted.
The identification of three foreigners, two Arabs and an African national, is in progress, he said.
A shipment of 12 portable anti-aircraft systems was intercepted, he said.
"The rebels left behind numerous weapons, ammunition, radio- activated explosive devices, and maps with marked locations for planting landmines. Communication tools, drugs and other equipment" were found at the site of the clash, he said.
Furthermore, Kadyrov congratulated troops on the upcoming Victory Day holiday.
