GROZNY. May 7 (Interfax-South) - Four Chechen police officers were murdered in the early hours of Wednesday.
"The incident occurred on a road linking the villages of Goiskoye and Komsomolskoye in the Urus-Martan district at around midnight," district administration chief Shirvani Yasayev told Interfax.
Yasayev said the policemen came under concentrated fire from assault rifles as they were returning from a mission. The assailants seized four Kalashnikov assault rifles, Makarov pistols and the policemen's IDs.
The attackers have not yet been detained.
Yasayev stressed that the bandits seem to have been well aware of the policemen's route.
A criminal case has been opened, and an investigation is underway.
