TBILISI. May 12 (Interfax-AVN) - The anti-terrorist operation in the Pankisi gorge will continue regardless of financial problems, Deputy Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council Dzhemal Gakhokidze said on Monday.
"There are indeed financial problems, but there is no way that they can stop the operation that was launched in August last year," Gakhokidze told Interfax-Military News Agency.
The deputy secretary did not disclose the amount of money needed for the development of the operation, but refuted Georgian media reports claiming that GEL7m (over USD3m) is required for this purpose.
According to him, the situation on the Russian-Georgian border remains calm, even though the melting of snow has increased chances of a guerilla breakthrough.
"We maintain contacts with our Russian and Western colleagues to prevent complications," Gakhokidze said.
