Moldova restores military departments in higher educational establishments

CHISINAU. May 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Military departments will be restored in all state higher educational establishments of Moldova, a source in the Moldovan Defense Ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency on Monday.

"The country's government has approved a regulation on the functioning of military departments determining their structure, activity, order of accreditation and appointment of department chiefs," the source said.

The idea to restore military departments was supported by Defense Minister Viktor Gaichuk, who believes that military training of students will contribute to the creation of trained reserve for the Armed Forces, the source said. The reserve currently includes only retired privates, but with the revival of military departments, it will be reinforced by retired sergeants and junior officers.

Studies with the military departments will be voluntary and last for six months.

Military departments currently exist in only three higher educational establishments in Moldova.
