Moscow still skeptical about NATO enlargement

MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has not changed its attitude on NATO's enlargement, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Yakovenko has said.

"This is not the road on which the problem of security in the Euro-Atlantic area can be resolved," he told reporters on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, Russia is not giving up efforts with the alliance and is ready to work together within the Russia-NATO council, he said.

The council's first session opened in Moscow on Tuesday. Russia is represented by Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov and Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov.
