SUKHUMI. May 15 (Interfax-AVN) - Armed formations of the self-proclaimed Abkhaz Republic are getting ready to take part in military exercises that will sum up results of the winter training period, a source in the Abkhaz Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
"Participants in the exercise scheduled for early June will practice interaction between all arms of service and military branches of the republic's Armed Forces," the source said.
"Special attention is paid to preparations for the exercise, because actions of troops will be evaluated by the new defense minister, Vyacheslav Eshba, who has been recently promoted to this position from the commander of the Air Force," the source said.
According to him, "participants in the exercises will pay priority attention to the training of mountain rifle units for active combat, because the Abkhaz Defense Ministry has learned of a new destabilization threat coming from the Kodori gorge after the snow started thawing and passes opened."
