STAVROPOL. May 19 (Interfax-AVN) - About 30 arms and ammo caches have been exposed by servicemen of the North Caucasus regional border guard department on the Russian-Georgian state border this year, the department's press service told Interfax- Military News Agency.
"The latest case of this kind was registered on Sunday. A search and reconnaissance party of the Argun border guard department exposed a bandit cache containing a large amount of arms, ammunition and explosives," a press service official said.
A 9-mm foreign-made automatic pistol, a Makarov pistol with a magazine and cartridges, over 10 full magazines with cartridges for the AK-74 assault rifle, three kilograms of explosives, a helicopter-launched projectile, grenades, electric detonators, a machine-gun belt with cartridges, and signal mines were hidden in the cache. In addition, the cache contained various military equipment, medicines, foodstuffs, etc.
According to experts, the cache was established 1.5 to two years ago, but all armament and equipment is in good condition and ready for use.
A large amount of firearms and cold arms, about 20 grenades, and over 22,000 cartridges have been seized on various sections of the Russian-Georgian border.
