MOSCOW. June 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The development of onboard radio electronics and composite materials are priority objectives in implementing the fifth-generation fighter program, Mikhail Pogosyan, Sukhoi Military Aircraft Corporation CEO, told a Tuesday news conference at the Interfax main office.
"The main area of concern is first of all about onboard radio electronics. We have to make an intellectual onboard radio electronics system that will comprehensively negotiate problems. In fact, we have to create an electronic co-pilot," Pogosyan said.
This is a new objective and new requirements on the sensors, on the radar, on electronic countermeasures systems, and on all other systems, he emphasized.
The new requirements are intended to make an integrated comprehensive problem-solving system, that is why they are so high as to computers and everything related to the development of onboard electronics, he also said.
In addition, he said, "there will be dramatic progress towards an essential increase in the share of composite materials in constructing the aircraft."
"These are the key departments we are working in within the framework of the fifth-generation aircraft," Pogosyan said.
He also said that military-use products accounted for about 90 percent in Sukhoi's overall output.
