Chechen Cabinet dismissed

GROZNY. June 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Chechen Cabinet has been dismissed, the press service of the republic's administration told Interfax on Tuesday.

Chechen administration chief Akhmad Kadyrov signed a decree to suspend the duties of all Cabinet members, ministers, heads of republican agencies and district administrations, as part of reorganization plans.

At the same time, the republic's Prime Minister Anatoly Popov was instructed to suggest new candidates for the Cabinet.

Kadyrov also relieved Oleg Zhidkov from his post as Grozny's mayor, because the official is going to take up another post.

Khozh-Akhmed Arsanov, most recently chairman of the government's committee for young people's affairs, will replace Zhidkov.

The administration said that the Cabinet's dismissal "will have no effect on the public or the political situation in Chechnya." They added that the republic's new Cabinet will be created within a very short period.
