Bolton's allegations on Russian arms sales to Iran "unsubstantiated" - Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Moscow has criticized the allegations on Russian arms sales to Iran recently made by U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton.

Moscow rejects "the new portion of unsubstantiated statements made by U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton, who practically accused Russia of encouraging the supply of WMD technologies to Iran," a Russian Foreign Ministry statement reads.

"During the Russian-U.S. summit in St. Petersburg and during the G-8 summit in Evian, the presidents of the leading countries of the world confirmed their intention to work together to oppose one of the main challenges of our time, the spread of weapons of mass destruction," the document reads.

"The following question arises: is this high-ranking official voicing his personal opinion, which is 'extravagant,' as usual, or is he simply voicing the position of those circles in Washington that do not like the strategic partnership and cooperation policy, including on priority disarmament and strategic stability issues, which has been confirmed by the presidents of Russia and the U.S.", the document reads.
