Mozdok terror attack could not be prevented - deputy Chief of Staff

MOSCOW. June 5 (Interfax-AVN) - The terrorist attack by a kamikaze woman, committed Thursday morning near the town of Mozdok, Chechnya, could not possibly be prevented, Colonel General Yuri Baluyevsky, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, told Interfax-Military News Agency Thursday.

"Acting as Chief of Staff today's morning, I was the first to receive the report of a terror attack by a kamikaze woman, committed Thursday morning about 1.5km off an Air Force base. It could not possibly be prevented," he said.

He also said that some officers had fallen victims to the attack (according to the latest information, 31 persons were affected. The 16 killed include four commissioned officers, two warrant officers, three enlisted women, and seven civilians - Interfax-AVN).

According to the general, the General Staff together with the Federal Security Service was setting up measures aimed against such attacks and at eliminating training bases for kamikaze terrorists.

"Terror attacks in Chechnya, committed by kamikaze fanatics are actually the last twitch of the bandits who will be eliminated sooner or later," Baluyevsky said.
