Excess troops withdrawal from Chechnya continues regardless of terrorist acts - Russian general

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Excess troops withdrawal from Chechnya will continue regardless of rebels' attempts to intimidate locals with recent terrorist acts, Colonel General Yuri Baluyevsky, first deputy chief-of-staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said on Friday.

"The plan of excess troops withdrawal from the Combined Federal Forces for summer this year is being implemented in compliance with decisions of the Defense Ministry leaders. Excess units are those that are being withdrawn," Baluyevsky told Interfax-Military News Agency.

He did not specify what federal units will leave Chechnya soon.

According to military sources, an artillery battalion of the Airborne Forces, several motorized rifle units, and Interior Ministry Forces units are about to leave the troubled republic.
