OMSK. June 6 (Interfax-AVN) - A grenade launcher and a heavy flame-thrower were awarded the Grand Prix of the Military Design contest within the framework of the VTTV-Omsk 2003 arms show.
The Grand Prix of the contest was given to the Omsk Transportation Machine-Building Design Bureau for its TOS-1 heavy flame-thrower and to Molot, Kirov region, for the AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher, a spokesman for the show's organizers committee told Interfax-Military News Agency Friday.
In addition to superb performance, these makes have revealed good ergonomics. Their high appreciation in the Russian army has also contributed to the decision, the spokesman said.
First prizes were awarded to KamAZ for its Extreme vehicle and to Izhmash for the Yunker-3 air rifle having the same outfit as the Kalashnikov assault rifle and intended for preparatory military courses in high schools.
The second prize was shared by the AN-3T Colt plane produced by Polyot, Omsk, and by the Kedr machine pistol made in the town of Zlatoust.
Belomo, Minsk, Belarus was awarded the international diploma of the contest for the design of sight systems. All in all there were 45 applications.
The focus of the Military Design contest is the art of industrial design. According to the founder of the contest, the Omsk department of the Russian Union of Designers, design can stimulate the domestic industrial export and contribute to the performance of the defense industry products.
According to the organizers committee, more than 20,000 people have visited the show that opened June 3.
