Belarus to make adequate response if NATO deploys troops in Poland - commander

MINSK. June 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Belarus will have to take adequate measures if NATO forces are deployed in Poland, Major General Anatoly Nikitin, commander of the Western Operational Command, said on Monday.

"This does not mean, however, that Belarus is going to revise its national security concept and military doctrine," Nikitin told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The commander confirmed that the Clear Sky 2003 planned comprehensive exercise will take place in Belarus in early October. "Rebuffing of the maneuver enemy's strikes on our facilities and control centers" will be practiced during the exercise, he said.

"Territorial defense issues will be worked on at the Clear Sky 2003 exercise," too, the commander noted.

According to Nikitin, "territorial defense forces will be led by the regional governor, and the regional military commissioner will become chief-of-staff."
