Russia arrests 55 Hizb ul-Tahrir al-Islami members, supporters

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Fifty-five members and supporters of a Moscow section of the militant organization Hizb ul-Tahrir al-Islami (Islamic Liberation Party) were arrested in Moscow on June 7, the Federal Security Service (FSB) public relations center said on Monday.

Those arrested had been living in Russia illegally, the center told Interfax. Their arrest followed an FSB-police operation.

The leader of the Moscow group, Kyrgyzstan national Alisher Musayev, and Hizb ul-Tahrir activist and functionary Akram Dzhalolov, a Tajikistan citizen, were among those detained, the center said.

One hundred grams of plastic explosive, three hand grenades of various types and 15 Hizb ul-Tahrir leaflets were confiscated from Musayev, and 400 grams of TNT, two cord detonators, 38 leaflets and two booklets were taken from Dzhalolov.
