TBILISI. June 11 (Interfax-AVN) - UN military observers will continue monitoring the Kodori Gorge despite the fact that a UN patrol unit was held hostage there between June 5 and 10, the UN Secretary General's envoy for the Georgian-Abkhaz settlement, Heidi Tagliavini, said on Wednesday.
Two German citizens, a Danish citizen and a Georgian interpreter were abducted and then released in the gorge.
The incident should be thoroughly analyzed, which will take some time, Tagliavini told a news conference at the Georgian Foreign Ministry.
The Kodori Gorge will not be dropped from the mandate of the UN military observer mission, she said.
Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Kakha Sikharulidze said that during the hostage situation, the ministry maintained intensive contacts with the UN mission, the German Embassy and the Danish Consulate in Tbilisi.
The former hostages are undergoing a medical checkup, a UN mission spokesman told Interfax.
