Proton launch vehicles to be upgraded over next few years - commander

BAIKONUR. June 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Proton heavy launch vehicles, which are used to put spacecraft in orbit, including Defense Ministry satellites, will soon be upgraded to Proton-M, commander of the Russian Space Forces Anatoly Perminov has said.

"I hope the question will be settled within two-three years," he told the press at Baikonur cosmodrome on Wednesday.

"Work on the Proton-M is underway. A total of ten test launches have been planned," he said.

"Two successful Proton-M launches have been made, so we can adopt the Proton-M after a smaller number of launches," Perminov said.
