TBILISI. June 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The rapid decline in relations between the U.S. and Iran threatens Georgia's security, former Georgian defense minister Tenghiz Kitovani has said.
"The Americans are trying to use Georgia and Azerbaijan for deploying military bases in case an operation is launched against Iran," Kitovani told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday in commenting on the latest harsh remarks from U.S. politicians aimed against Iran.
"Even though Iran is a state that enjoys friendly relations with Georgia and Azerbaijan, it would have to engage in combat activities on both Georgian and Azerbaijani territory," Kitovani said.
"This cannot be allowed to happen, because the U.S. will turn the Caucasus into a large proving range in case of a war against Iran," the former minister stressed.
