Guerillas attack collectors' car in Chechnya

GROZNY. June 18 (Interfax-AVN) - Three Chechen guerillas in camouflage and masks riding a VAZ-2107 car tried to seize a VAZ- 2110 collector's car on the Sernovodskaya-Samashki road.

"Three unidentified persons have assaulted the collectors' car carrying cash for payment of pensions on a bypass road between the Sernovodskaya and Samashki communities," a source in the Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

The collectors' car got some bullet holes, but no guards were injured, he said.

The police tried to stop the attackers at a quickly established picket. One of the three passengers of the VAZ-2107 was injured in the exchange of fire.

Some hours later, law-enforcers found the VAZ-2107 while conducting a search operation near the Samashki village. The body of Artur Shadiev, born in 1978, was found in the car. According to intelligence data, he was a so-called emir (guerilla leader) of the Achkhoi-Martan district and a member of illegal armed gangs. The man was on the wanted list for a long time.

"Other participants in the attack on the collectors managed to escape. Search for them is underway," the source said.
