Russian Defense Ministry's board discussing hardware supply to army, security strengthening at nuclear facilities

MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian military leaders are discussing supply of arms and hardware to the Armed Forces and the strengthening of security measures at nuclear facilities, a source in the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

"The Defense Ministry's board is discussing the provision of the Armed Forces with armament and hardware for the period until 2010," the source said.

According to experts, hardware upgrade during its capital repairs will be among the priority ways of armament and hardware development before 2010.

Decisions have been made to maintain equipment of the strategic nuclear forces at the minimal sufficient level and that of permanent readiness units of general purpose forces mostly through repairing and upgrading arms and hardware for the near future.

Chief of the Defense Ministry's 12th directorate Colonel General Igor Valynkin will report to the board on the state of security at nuclear facilities and its strengthening, as well as on maintenance of nuclear munitions in combat readiness.
