Russian DM reminds military officials of responsibility for nuclear safety

MOSCOW. June 20 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov has drawn the attention of military officials to their personal responsibility for guaranteeing safety at nuclear arms facilities.

"A Friday Defense Ministry board session discussed questions of supplying the Armed Forces with armaments and military hardware over the period ending in 2011, and also the state of nuclear arms facilities and efforts to enhance their safety. During the discussion of the second issue, the minister drew the attention of the chiefs of military control bodies to their personal responsibility for pursuing a uniform technical policy that guarantees safety at nuclear weapons' storage facilities," a ministry spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The session defined general directions for the ministry's efforts to enhance safety and keep nuclear arms facilities in proper condition.

During the discussion of the first issue, the session worked out measures and defined spheres of work to create a system of additional supply of materiel to the army and navy.

Results of the discussion were summed up in resolutions passed by the session, the spokesman said.
