Georgia accuses Russia of violating its airspace, Russia denies

TBILISI/MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Shalva Londaridze, spokesman for Georgia's state border guard department, has said that a Russian SU-25 Frogfoot assault aircraft trespassed Georgian airspace at 10:30 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday.

"The country's airspace was violated over the village of Tebulo at the Chechen sector of the Russian-Georgian border," Londaridze told Interfax-Military News Agency Thursday.

"The airplane flew two kilometers through Georgian airspace, then turned around and returned to Russia," he said. The spokesman added that "this is already the ninth violation of the Georgian state border and airspace this year."

Russian Air Force spokesman Alexander Drobyshevsky denied today's incident. "No Russian combat aircraft has breached Georgian airspace. Furthermore, Russian Air Force planes have not flown any missions near the Georgian state border on Thursday," he said.
