Lithuanian army developing correctly - top NATO military

VILNIUS. July 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Lithuanian army is developing correctly and will be capable of fulfilling NATO missions, Deputy Supreme Allied Command Europe Admiral Rainer Feist told a news conference after meetings with top Lithuanian military.

The numerical strength is not as important as the army's capabiilty to make use of high technologies, he said.

He emphasized that the Lithuanian army should be compact but up-to-date and ready to address contingencies.

Lithuania will gain full NATO membership in 2004.
