Guerillas' ambush destroyed on highway in Chechnya

KHANKALA. July 03 (Interfax-AVN) - A federal unit has destroyed a guerillas' ambush on a convoy route.

"While convoying, a unit of the Combined Federal Force in the North Caucasus has found and destroyed a guerillas' ambush five kilometers from the village of Avtury," a source in the Federal Force HQ told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

He said that sappers had found and neutralized two powerful landmines planted on the road not far from the ambush, and one more explosive device not far from the village of Tsentoroi in the Nozhai-Yurt district of Chechnya. The latter was a kilo of TNT in a plastic bag, reinforced with metal fragments.

According to the source, federal sappers have checked a total of nearly 900km of highways in the past day.

As many as two assault rifles, a grenade launcher, an antitank missile, 55 hand grenades, 7 arty projectiles, 22 mortar shells, seven grenade launcher rounds, six radios and 19.8kg of explosives have been seized during special operations from 13 detected caches.
