Russians leading World Aerobatics Championship

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian national aerobatics team operating the Sukhoi aircraft is leading the first round of the World Aerobatics Championship in Lakeland, Florida, USA.

"Russians are in the first four places. The results they revealed have again proved the high reputation of the designer, Sukhoi Design Bureau," Alexei Poveshchenko, advisor to the AVPK Sukhoi CEO, told Interfax-Military News Agency Thursday.

He emphasized that the best American pilots were closing the top 10.

According to Poveshchenko, 52 aircraft, including 25 Sukhoi- made SU-29, SU-31, and SU-26M exported from Russia were participating in the championship.

Within the official round the Russian team has presented the SU-31 and modernized SU-26M with an ejection system.

"In two competition days 12 medals were contested. Ten of them (three gold, three silver, and four bronze medals) have been won by Russian pilots," Poveshchenko said.
