Russia may have anti-terrorist battalions on permanent alert

MOSCOW. July 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Reinforced reconnaissance and airborne battalions may be put on the permanent alert for an effective fight against terrorism. It will be possible to bring the battalions to any region of the country or abroad by military freight planes, a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

"In an emergency, the units can be airlifted to any place in Russia or abroad (landing or parachuting) within 3 to 12 hours," the source said.

He said that first of all such battalions would be formed among paratroopers, marines, and SOp units. They will be trained specially for antiterror warfare.
