Russian Interior Ministry had information about planned terrorist attacks (Part 2)

MOSCOW. July 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Interior Ministry possessed information about planned suicide bombings in Moscow, Interior Ministry spokesman Yuri Shuvalov told Interfax on Thursday.

"The Interior Ministry knew that suicide bomb attacks were to be carried out in Moscow in July. The suicide bombings at the Tushino airfield and in downtown Moscow must have been on this list," he said.

"We received this information from our agents in the North Caucasus. But we did not know where exactly the terrorist attacks would be staged," he continued.

"After the suicide bombing during an open-air rock festival in Tushino, Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov ordered measures to tighten security in Moscow and elsewhere in Russia," he said.

"The main emphasis was laid on alerting law enforcement and the public against the threat of terrorist attacks. As a result, one more terrorist attack and a massive loss of life was prevented," Shuvalov said.
