Belarus to exhibit upgraded air defense missile system at Polish arms show

MINSK. July 11 (Interfax-AVN) - The Tetraeder research and production enterprise will exhibit the upgraded Osa-1T air defense missile system at an international defense industry show in Poland, chief of the enterprise's marketing department Vladimir Melikayev said on Friday.

"Tetraeder will exhibit a series of its knowledge-intensive developments at the show that will take place in the Polish town of Kielce from September 2 to 5. Among other items, Poland will see the Osa-AK(AKM) air defense missile system upgraded to the Osa-1T level by Tetraeder," Melikayev told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Osa-1T uses two new universal methods of homing an air defense missile, he stressed,

According to him, "a new efficient system of air defense missile systems homing was tested on Osa-1T for the first time in the world."

"Use of new air defense missile homing methods made it possible to boost the probability of hitting the target with one missile, expand the altitude and range of the hitting zone, and reduce the number of missiles required to hit a target," Melikayev noted.

Osa-1T is expected to pass the full cycle of tests before October 1, 2003.
