KHANKALA. July 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Eleven rebels were killed and four arrested in Chechnya over the past 24 hours, Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, an official with the regional headquarters of the anti-terrorist operation in the Northern Caucasus, told Interfax on Monday.
Three of the rebels were killed in the Itum-Kale district and several groups were destroyed in the Shali district, near the populated area of Kurchaloi, he said.
At the same time, Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Berzeitis, deputy commander of the Combined Federal Forces in the North Caucasus, told Interfax on Monday that a large rebel base had been fully destroyed in a special operation in the village of Zandak, Nozhai-Yurt district. Berzeitis said the base was located in caves in a mountain near the Yamansu River.
