KHANKALA. July 21 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels fired at federal checkpoints 18 times last week, a source in the headquarters of the Combined Federal Force in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
In addition, rebels fired at federal motorcades two times and at administration offices four times, the source said. Landmines and home-made explosive devices blasted off 11 times in Grozny and in the Shali, Nozhai-Yurt and Urus-Martan districts of the republic. Federal sappers defused over 150 explosive devices, including 18 landmines.
Participants in special operations in the Itum-Kale, Nozhai- Yurt, Shatoi, Shali, and Gudermes districts destroyed three summer camps and seven dug-outs made by rebels. Nine arms and ammo caches were found in mountainous areas.
SU-24 Fencer and SU-25 Frogfoot planes made 22 combat sorties last week. Aircraft destroyed a rebel base in the mountains and created four roadblocks on mountain paths.
