Russian planes to airlift UN peacekeepers from Bangladesh to Uganda

MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's Volga-Dnerp Airlines has started implementing the program of UN peacekeepers transportation from Dacca, the capital of Bangladesh, to Uganda, the Volga-Dnepr press service said on Tuesday.

"The plan is to make 26 flights within a month to deliver the peacekeeping contingent from Bangladesh to the Entebbe airport. Several AN-124-100 Condor (Russian codename Ruslan) planes will be used in the airlift. They will deliver large-size cargo, heavy wheeled vehicles and engineer equipment to Africa," a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The airlift is ordered by the United Nations, the official noted. The planes will be piloted by the crews that have got the best training, he said.

Volga-Dnerp has been involved in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions all over the world since 1992. The airline has had the status of the UN official transporter since 1994. It was added to the list of main aircraft services providers for the UN in 1995.

The airline operates nine AN-124-100 planes, two IL-76 Candid planes, and six YAK-40 Codling planes.
