Russian Defense Ministry determines urgent measures to improve combat potential of permanent-readiness units

MOSCOW. July 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Defense Ministry board on Wednesday determined the list of urgent measures that must be taken to maintain combat potential of permanent-readiness units on the level that is required for accomplishing their missions, the ministry's press service has reported.

"The session of the Defense Ministry board chaired by Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov heard the report of Land Forces Commander-in-Chief and Deputy Defense Minister Nikolai Kormiltsev on the state of troops' potential and measures to maintain it, especially as far as permanent-readiness units are concerned," the press service said.

Kormiltsev said in his report that "the well-trained Land Forces sufficiently equipped with armament and military hardware constitute the core of general-purpose forces and provide a reliable guarantee of accomplishing national military security maintenance missions on a high quality level in interaction with other services and branches of the Armed Forces."

Having heard the report, the board determined the list of urgent measures aimed at maintaining combat preparedness of the Land Forces.

In addition, the board approved lists of applicants for presidential scholarships and state scholarships of the Russian government among associate professors and cadets of the Defense Ministry's higher educational establishments.
