KYIV/MOSCOW. July 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian-Ukrainian talks on the fulfillment of bilateral agreements on scrapping nuclear ammunition have begun in Moscow.
The press service of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday that the main purpose of the talks is to sum up the results of the fulfillment of the agreement on the transfer of nuclear warheads from Ukraine to Russia for dismantling and destruction in line with the completion of the disposal process.
The press service of the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the stay of a Ukrainian military delegation in Moscow but did not disclose the contents of the upcoming talks to be held at the ministry's 12th main directorate.
The Ukrainian delegation to the talks is led by Viktor Taran, section head in the Verification department of the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff. The talks will last until Saturday.
The process of monitoring the dismantling and destruction of tactical nuclear warheads withdrawn from Ukraine to Russia ended in 2001. The process was monitored at the facilities of the Russian Atomic Energy Ministry.
