Effort to neutralize explosives at terrorist base near Moscow completed

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Explosives experts from the Federal Security Service on Friday morning completed the effort to neutralize explosive devices discovered in the village of Tolstopaltsevo southwest of Moscow.

An Interfax correspondent reported from the site that the specialists experienced difficulties with the last bomb. When the robot tried to pick up the bomb and load it into a special protective container, the bomb fell apart.

For this reason a special water cannon was used together with the robot to destroy the remainder of the bomb and place it in the container.

Experts are now preparing to remove the container from the site.

The village remains cordoned off and villagers had to go to work by foot.

The explosives, namely so-called Shakhid belts, were discovered during a search conducted by investigators from the Prosecutor General's Office and Federal Security Service detectives in the framework of the investigation into the acts of terrorism in Tushino and central Moscow.

A total of six belts identical to the ones used in these terrorist acts were discovered in a garage in Tolstopaltsevo.

"The investigators and detectives managed to find the cache thanks to evidence given by Zarema Muzhekhoyeva, a suspect in the case," a source told Interfax.

Muzhekhoyeva was detained on July 10 while attempting to set off a Shakhid belt in central Moscow. The Prosecutor General's Office has charged her with three offenses - terrorism, premeditated murder and attempted murder.
