Moldova's new law on national defense allows army to take part in anti-terrorist actions

CHISINAU. July 25 (Interfax-AVN) - The law on national defense passed by the Moldovan parliament in the final reading on Friday allows the National Army to take part in anti-terrorist operations, a source in the parliament's administration told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The new law authorizes the use of the National Army in anti- terrorist operations if the head of state issues a decree to this effect and in actions aimed at coping with consequences of natural and man-made disasters if the government issues a resolution to this effect," the source said.

According to Moldovan Defense Ministry experts, the new law corresponds to national defense components, divides the authorities of state bodies in the sphere of defense and determines the organization, purpose and use of the National Army as the main component of the Armed Forces which is responsible for national defense.
