MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Six tanks are on fire at a depot of the elite Kantemirovskaya division near Moscow, a source at the headquarters of the Moscow Military District told Interfax- Military News Agency on Monday.
"Preliminary reports say three of the six tanks are fully armed, so firefighters have not started extinguishing the fire for fear of ammunition explosions," he said. The burning deport has been cordoned off, he said.
The fire broke out at 11:20 a.m. Moscow time (0720 GMT) on Monday. Russian Defense Ministry spokeman Nikolai Deryabin told Interfax-AVN that one serviceman died in the fire. He said the fire has been localized.
Moscow Military District commander Colonel General Ivan Yefremov has arrived at the scene.
