MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The CIS nations are planning to set up a coordination council of Interior Ministry Force commanders with the goal to maintain efficient interaction in the law-enforcement sphere, a competent source in the Russian Interior Ministry Force Command told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday,
"Kazakh Interior Ministry Force Commander Bulat Zhanasayev proposed creating a coordination council of the CIS Interior Ministry Force commanders at the June meeting with Russian Interior Ministry Force Commander Vyacheslav Tikhomirov in Moscow. The Russian commander supported the idea, and solutions of the issue are being cleared with other Interior Ministry Force commanders of the CIS and with CIS working bodies," the source said.
According to him, the issue primarily concerns five member nations of the CIS, these being Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. "The Interior Ministry Force commanders of these five nations could form the core of the coordination council that will gather regularly, three or four times a year, to tackle urgent issues in the law-enforcement sphere," he said.
New threats related to international terrorism have made it necessary to pool efforts against them in the CIS framework, the source said.
"Creation of the coordination council of the five CIS Interior Ministry Force commanders will contribute to efficient tackling of issues related to combating international terrorism, thwarting activity of criminals and extremists in the CIS framwork," the source stressed.
