Rebel base destroyed in Chechnya

KHANKALA. July 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Federal forces have launched an air strike on a rebel base in the mountains of Chechnya, a source in Combined Federal Forces headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

"Over the week from July 21 to July 27, SU-24 Fencer bombers and SU-25 Frogfoot attack planes flew 18 combat missions. According to preliminary reports, they destroyed a rebel mountain base, two transmitters and one suspension bridge," the source noted.

Air strikes also dispersed a rebel group preparing to ambush an army convoy.

"Small rebel groups active near Grozny and Khankala are reported to have obtained portable anti-aircraft missile systems," he added.
