Eleven rebels killed in Chechnya last week

KHANKALA. July 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Eleven rebels were killed in Chechnya from July 21-27, a source in the Combined Federal Forces headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

"Nine armed clashes were reported in the Nozhai-Yurt, Shali and Vedeno districts, as well as near the towns of Argun and Grozny, over last week. Eleven rebels were killed and another three taken captive," the source said.

Federal checkpoints were attacked by rebels 23 times last week. Four attacks on administrative buildings and one on a train were also reported.

"Eleven cars and armored vehicles were blown up in Chechnya last week," the source noted. More than 120 explosive devices, including nine landmines, were defused.

In addition, search operations revealed 12 caches containing weapons and a cave filled with foodstuffs and medicine.
