Armed Forces chief-of-staff to hear army commander's report in Russia's Samara

SAMARA. July 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Armed Forces Chief- of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin, who is making an inspection trip to the Volga-Ural military district, arrived in Samara on Monday evening, a source in the headquarters of the 2nd air force and air defense army told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The chief-of-staff is accompanied by a group of General Staff generals and officers, as well as by Air Force Commander-in- Chief Vladimir Mikhailov and commander of the Volga-Ural military district Colonel General Alexander Baranov," the source said.

According to him, a commission comprising high-ranking officials of the General Staff has been inspecting the district in the past two weeks.

"Thus, Army General Kvashnin is given comprehensive information on the state of combat readiness and routine activity of the military district's forces," the source said.

Kvashnin flew to Samara from Orenburg, where he personally inspected several units, including a missile unit, a military transport aviation unit and a radio intelligence unit, he noted.

"While staying at the Samara garrison, Anatoly Kvashnin is expected to hear the report of the 2nd joint-arms army commander, hold classes for generals and officers of the army administration, and visit air force and air defense units. A command post exercise was launched at the 27th guard motorized rifle division in the Totsky garrison, the Orenburg region on the eve of his visit," the source said.

In addition, Kvashnin will meet with Samara region Governor Konstantin Titov, a spokesman for the regional administration told Interfax-AVN.

"The chief-of-staff is planning to make an inspection trip to the Totsky military garrison on Tuesday and to visit the Chaikovsky military garrison the day after tomorrow. After that he is supposed to leave for the Volga-Ural military district headquarters in Yekaterinburg to sum up activity of the General Staff's comprehensive inspection team," the source said.

Kvashnin is also planning to check the 5th air force and air defense army stationed in the region.
