MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax-AVN) - President Vladimir Putin is expecting effective work from the newly-created anti-drug committee.
"Not a single country has an agency that can match Russia's by its size, number of officials and equipment," Putin said at a meeting with senior military officials in the Kremlin on Tuesday.
The president recalled that the committee has effectively inherited the tax police's property and personnel.
Putin said that "not only the country's authorities, but the country as a whole expects this agency to work more effectively. It will be unacceptable if your operations prove futile and its huge staff sinks into a bureaucratic mire," he said.
The president noted that "we are all expecting effective and successful operations. And society should see the results."
The state anti-drug committee was established under a presidential decree of March 11. Viktor Cherkesov, Putin's former envoy to the Northwestern Federal District, was appointed as its chief.
