Russian Armed Forces chief-of-staff cancels Airborne Force festival at Moscow airfield

MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Chief-of-Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin has cancelled the annual Airborne Force anniversary celebrations in Moscow that were originally scheduled for Saturday, Airborne Commander Georgy Shpak told a news conference.

"We have held annual military sports festivals at the Tushino airfield on August 2, the Airborne Force birthday, for over 20 years. Unfortunately, the celebrations will not take place this year. Chief-of-Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin has cancelled the festivities at the Tushino airfield without explaining his reasons," Shpak said.

The airborne commander expressed his regret and said that Airborne Force Day will be celebrated at the Kremlin, where a concert will be held.
