MAGAS. July 30 (Interfax-South) - Ingush President Murat Zyazikov sees no need to send additional army units to his republic following the terrorist attack in the village of Galashki.
"There is no need for an army buildup in Ingushetia because of the terrorist attack near Galashki," he told Interfax on Wednesday.
He ruled out the possibility of the spread of the anti- terrorist operation of federal troops from Chechnya to Ingushetia.
"There are forces interested in expanding the conflict. There are such forces in both Chechnya and abroad. But there will be no second Chechnya in Ingushetia. The situation in Ingushetia is normal and fully under control," Zyazikov said.
Five servicemen died Tuesday evening when two Kamaz trucks carrying 12 servicemen hit a land mine near Galashki.
In reply to questions, Zyazikov said that the return of refugees from Ingushetia to Chechnya has intensified. There are some 62,000 refugees from Chechnya in his republic now, 13,000 of them living in tent camps.
"The return process has intensified. We have received some 10,000 applications from people who want to go back home. In the past two days alone, we received about 50 such applications," he said.
Zyazikov emphasized that the refugees are returning to Chechnya purely of their own free will. "The process is voluntary. We do not have any timeframe or schedule that has to be observed," he said.
