Eight rebels killed in southeastern Chechnya

KHANKALA. July 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Eight rebels including some Arab mercenaries were killed in a clash between federal servicemen and Chechen rebels in the mountains in southeastern Chechnya on Thursday morning.

"Identification procedures are in progress," Chechnya's Deputy Military Commandant Ruslan Yamadayev has told Interfax.

He said two servicemen from a military unit under Sulima Yamadayev's command were killed. Both of them were residents of Chechnya.

A search operation is still underway in the area of the clash.
