AN-70 not to fly at MAKS air show

ZHUKOVSKY, Moscow Region. July 31 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian-Ukrainian AN-70 transport plane will not fly at the MAKS 2003 international aerospace show in Zhukovsky on August 19-23.

"The reason the AN-70 will not take park is because it has not yet passed state flight tests," a source in the show's flight security service told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

"The aircraft that have not passed the tests or those with some defects or faults will not fly, but will be allowed to stay in demonstration areas on the ground during the exhibition," he said.

"Moreover, all the aircraft that have been put forward for participation in the show will go through an additional check- up," the source went on. The flight security service has already banned four aircraft from the show, he stressed.

MAKS 2003 will feature about 200 aircraft and involve 485 companies from Russia, 22 companies from other CIS nations, and 115 companies from outside the CIS.

U.S. F-15, F-16 and B-52 planes will be demonstrated at the show for the first time.
