Sixth candidate joins presidential race in Chechnya

GROZNY. July 31 (Interfax-South) - Colonel Sayed-Selim Tsuyev, Chechnya's deputy military commandant, has submitted the documents required to obtain registration as a presidential candidate to the Chechen Elections Committee.

Tsuyev may now start collecting signatures in his support.

In an interview with Interfax, he expressed hope that servicemen and many of Chechnya's civilians would vote for him.

At the same time, Abdul-Kerim Arsakhanov, chairman of the republic's Elections Committee, told Interfax that apart from Tsuyev, registration requests have also been received from Moscow businessman Malik Saidullayev, Sayed-Khamzat Gairbekov, a construction worker from Astrakhan, poet Nikolai Paizulayev, Chechen University teacher Avkhan Khanchukayev and retired interior ministry force Colonel Zaindi Mavlatov.

The Elections Committee expects Chechen deputy Aslambek Aslakhanov, Moscow banker Abubakar Arsamakov and Moscow businessman Khusein Dzhabrailov to announce their candidacies for the presidency in Chechnya on Friday or early next week.
