Kamov company to demonstrate six heli makes at MAKS 2003

MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Kamov will demonstrate six helicopter makes in flight at the upcoming MAKS 2003 international aerospace show, the company's press service told Interfax-Military News Agency Monday.

"The demo flight schedule includes a group flight of KA-50 Black Shark and KA-52 Alligator helicopters, as well as KA-31, KA- 32 Helix, KA-60 Kasatka (aka Killer Whale - Interfax-AVN), and KA- 226 Hoodlum flights. A pair of KA-50s will demonstrate aerobatics, KA-32 firefighting capabilities, and the KA-31 radio surveillance helicopter will fly with rotating array," the press service said.

According to the press service, the KA-52 multirole all- weather helicopter has passed the first stage of state trials. "The helicopter is ready to the second stage of state trials with onboard equipment including a radar and a day/night piloting-and- sighting system," the press release read.

The press service also said that the KA-60 No 1 would be involved in the flight program, while No 2 will be shown on the ground. "The KA-60U derivative will be the main training attack helicopter," the press service said.

According to the press service, the KA-31 surveillance helicopter can detect aerial targets including cruise missiles at long distances. The helicopter is being supplied to India; the contract is ending in 2003.

The KA-226 (certification trials for the helicopter are still in progress) will also be demonstrated. The press service said that the firm considered powering this helicopter with Ukrainian AI-450 or French Arrius engines. The KA-226 may be used as a primary trainer for the Air Force and ROSTO.

The KA-32A derivative to be demonstrated at the show is the only Russian helicopter certified according to the U.S. airworthiness requirements.

Kamov is also developing the KA-62 (a civilian version of the KA-60) 14-seat passenger helicopter and the KA-115 five- seater.
