TBILISI. Aug 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The Georgian State Border Guard Department is drafting an agreement with Russia on exchanging liaison officers who will operate on the Chechen, Ingush and Dagestani border sections, the department's chief-of- staff Colonel Kornely Salia said on Monday.
Georgia has come up with a series of proposals in this sphere and will hand them over to Russia this week, Salia told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"The passing of documents on several other aspects of cooperation is also required," he said.
Salia said he was hoping that the document will be ready by the time Colonel General Vladimir Pronichev, Russian Federal Security Service deputy director and chief of the Border Guard Service, comes to Tbilisi for a visit. The event is scheduled for September.
The exchange of liaison officers will help improve interaction at adjacent pickets and boost reliability of communication and intelligence data transfer, the official stressed.
At the same time, joint border patrolling is not on the agenda, he added.
