GROZNY. Aug 4 (Interfax-South) - Residents of the Chechen village of Samashki have blocked traffic on the federal highway between Ingushetia and Chechnya demanding the seizure of the kidnappers of a local girl.
The Chechen Interior Ministry told Interfax on Monday that for the third day in a row, over 100 people were obstructing traffic on the crossing of Achkhoi-Martan - Samashki and Baku- Rostov highways. They demand that the authorities detain persons involved in the abduction of Elza Katsayeva, a local girl.
On August 2, armed people wearing masks burst into a house in Samashki and took the girl away by force. Immediate attempts to catch the kidnappers failed.
Interior Minister Alu Alkhanov received representatives of the villagers and assured them that Chechen law enforcement officers, with the assistance of federal forces, are making every effort to identify the kidnappers, free the girl and hold the criminals accountable.
The protesters have refused to lift the road blockade. They have not put forward any demands unrelated to the kidnapping.
