MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Poland's Air Force and Air Defense Commander Ryszard Olszewski has discussed prospects for the upgrade of the MIG-29 Fulcrums in service with the Polish Air Force with Nikolai Nikitin, CEO and Designer General of RSK MIG.
"General Ryszard Olszewski now in Moscow on invitation from Nikolai Nikitin, CEO and designer general of Russia's MIG aircraft corporation, discussed the upgrade of the MIG-29 in service with the Polish Air Force with the leadership of the corporation on August 4 to 6," the MIG press service told Interfax-Military News Agency Wednesday.
The general was shown prospective aircraft produced by the corporation. The chief of a Polish air force college escorting the commander has performed a demo flight on the MIG-AT trainer.
In comment on the flight, the Polish pilot said that the MIG- AT is a marvelous aircraft and he would not like anything else for training of young Polish pilots, the press service said.
In accordance with an earlier signed contract, MIG recovers the airworthiness of 22 Polish Fulcrums, four of which are MIG- 29UB twin-seated combat trainers.
In particular, the contract stipulates flaw detection of the fighters with replacement of old elements. Part of them will be repaired in Russia. The contract estimated by experts as worth USD10m is scheduled for two years.
Experts say more than a half Polish MIG-29s require MRO.
In addition, Poland is to get another three MIG-29s from the German Air Force in the coming years.
